TURKANA EXPRESS SUMMARY This safari will take you off the beaten tourist track to  Northern Kenya,  the sparsely populated and less explored part of Kenya where you will traverse across some of the worst roads in Kenya, come across colorful and captivating tribes and breathtaking scenery. mountainous cool Marsabit, into the desert environs of the Chalbi desert and  the brilliant jade sea (Lake Turkana) that offers the best sun set views in the world.

DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1
Day 1 Nairobi to Marsabit We depart from Nairobi at 7.00am and drive to Marsabit.  We shall stop over in Isiolo for lunch. we head north again along the Trans-African highway to Marsabit. Marsabit  is a hilly oasis rising high above the surrounding deserts, hence its name which means a place of  cool.  It is home to the Rendille  and samburu people. We set up camp for our overnight stay.
Day 2

Day 2 Marsabit to Kalacha

we drive to Lake paradise  and little lake where the indigenous forest and desert come together to create the most compelling landscape on earth.  Here there is  plenty of elephants and greater Kudu and the dense forest in the park is home to a variety of birds. Lunch en route passing the Kaisut and Chalbi Desert (impassable if wet) as we proceed towards Kalacha. This is a small settlement on the edge of the Chalbi Desert inhabited by the Gabbra people (pastoralists particularly attached to their camels). Enjoy an evening sunset, or watch a Gabbra performance in the evening (optional cost)

Day 3
Day 3 –  Kalacha – Lake Turkana [Sibilioi national park] We break camp and depart early, crossing the outskirts of the Chalbi Desert transiting North Horr before arriving at Sibilioi national park. This park lies on the northeastern shore of Lake Turkana, it is waterless except for the alkaline waters of the lake; it however harbours variety of wildlife including common zebra, giraffe, hippos, crocodile and numerous bird species such as flamingos, pelicans and ducks.  Other attractions are the preserved wildlife fossils which include the Giant Tortoise and the 18-20 ft long Crocodile. Overnight at the camp.
Day 4
Day 4 – Lake Turkana- [Loyangalani] Depart after breakfast for Loyangalani where you have lunch. In the afternoon we take optional activities like boat ride  in the lake Turkana, visiting the Desert museum, visit to Turkana and El molo villages and exploration of Loyangalani town by foot.
Day 5
Day 5 – Loyaghalani to Maralal After breakfast we  proceed to Maralal via Baragoi where we spend the night (cold). Maralal is the unofficial capital of the Samburu people and has a distinctly frontier feel about it.
Day 5
Day 6 Mararal to  Nairobi After breakfast we go drive back to Nairobi to arrive in the late afternoon where our safari ends.
